A routine traffic stop on Thursday resulted in the arrest of a convicted felon for possession of ammunition. According to a Sheriff’s report, a deputy stopped a white Honda at about 12:30 p.m. on Thursday near Cobalt Road and Deerhurst Avenue in Yucca Valley for speeding. The deputy performed a records check on the driver and sole occupant of the car, Steven Kirkland, 29, and found that Kirkland was a convicted felon. During a search of the Honda, the deputy found a 12-gauge shotgun shell. Steven Kirkland was arrested for investigation of being a felon in possession of ammunition, booked into the Morongo Basin Jail, and released on a $35,000 bail bond later that night.
