On Monday, January 18, Joshua Tree National Park will join in commemorating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his contribution to civil rights in this country, by waiving entrance fees to the park. Fees for activities such as camping, reservations, tours, or concessions will still be collected as normal. January 18 will be the first, fee-free day of the centennial year. Park Ranger Pam Tripp fills in the other fee-free days…
The National Park Service turns 100 years old this year and wants everyone to celebrate. All national parks will waive entrance fees on 16 special days in 2016:
-January 18 – Martin Luther King Jr. Day
-April 16-24 – National Park Week
-August 25-28 – National Park Service Birthday
-September 24 – National Public Lands Day
-November 11 – Veterans Day
On those dates, at Joshua Tree National Park, you will not have to pay the $20 per vehicle entrance price. Camping & reservation fees will still be collected as normal. Fee free days are an opportunity to take advantage of scenic hikes and views, and enjoy the desert, day or night. Prepare accordingly with a backpack, water, sunscreen, hat, and snacks. Pack up your family, bring a camera, and enjoy a free visit to your beautiful desert park. Call 760-367-5500 or visit any of our visitor centers to find out more information about fee free days.
