FEDS TELL MORONGO BASIN HEALTHCARE DISTRICT TO FORM NEW BOARD

Morongo Basin Healthcare District Chief Executive Officer Jackie Combs announced during the last district board meeting that federal Health Resources and Service Administration officials have given the district until the first part of February to reorganize the community health clinic board or possibly lose $1.6 million in grant money. Reporter Eric Knabe has more on this situation…
At the meeting, Jackie Combs announced that she has received the “Notice of Award” for the HRSA grant. The grant is typically for three years, however with the CHC board resignation, the HRSA has informed Combs that the grant is for one year. If all aspects of the new CHC Board meet requirements, they will be able to apply for another grant for the usual three-year period. They already have the four community members lined up to serve. The District is now seeking five people who are patients at their two clinics to serve on their community health clinics board. Combs is confident that they will be in compliance before the deadline.
