A man was killed while walking along Highway 62 Wednesday morning. According to Deputy Jared Dominick, at about 10:48 this morning, an unidentified male in his forties was walking eastbound on the south side of State Route 62 on the bridge over the wash at Smoketree in Twentynine Palms. He was struck from the rear by a Dodge Ram pickup truck and sustained fatal injuries. The driver of pickup did pull over and stop. The identity of the male is being withheld pending positive identification and notification of next of kin. State Route 62 in Twentynine Palms will be closed between Larrea and Encelia until about 6 p.m. tonight while Sheriff’s deputies conduct their investigation. Traffic is being diverted onto dirt roads in the area. Please drive carefully on these roads. The exact cause of the collision is pending investigation by the Major Accident Division.
