Fatal OWS collision leaves two 29 Palms residents dead

A fatal collision on Old Woman Springs Road left two people from Twentynine Palms dead, and another suffering from major injuries. 

This morning (November 20) at approximately 8:35 a.m., the California Highway Patrol reports that a Jeep Cherokee driving southbound on Old Woman Springs Road north of Olivine Road in Landers bypassed another vehicle over double yellow lines. The CHP identified the driver of the Jeep as Josie Stijepovic, a 39-year-old female from Helendale.

The CHP reports that while driving south in the northbound lane, the Jeep struck a Kia driving north in the northbound lane. The driver of the Kia was identified as a 36 year-old man from Twentynine Palms, and his passenger was identified as a 33 year-old woman from Twentynine Palms.

The passenger of the Kia was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision. The driver of the Kia was transported to Hi-Desert Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.  Stijepovic sustained major injuries and was transported to Desert Regional Medical Center.

Update 11/21 @ 10:22AM – The CHP previously stated that drugs and alcohol were a factor in the collision, and have since updated their statement to say that they did not appear to be a factor.
