A man was killed early Saturday morning in a fatal crash in Twentynine Palms. According to the California Highway Patrol, Shawn Lance, 35, of Allentown, Pennsylvania, was driving his 1995 Toyota Tacoma pick-up truck westbound on Indian Trail about 12:20 a.m. The CHP estimates his speed was 90 to 100 miles per hour, and it is suspected he failed to stop at the stop sign at Lear and Indian Trail. Lance lost control of the truck, which struck a dirt embankment and became airborne before striking a chain link fence, landing on private property southwest of the intersection. The truck rolled over several times and the driver was thrown from the vehicle. The property owner discovered the crash about 6:30 a.m. and called 911. Shawn Lance was pronounced deceased at the scene. It is unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash. Anyone with information should call the California Highway Patrol at 760-366-3707.
