A family of four who became lost while hiking in the Pioneertown Mountains Preserve was rescued by Sheriff’s aviation Saturday afternoon. The 50-year-old father called for help about 1:45 p.m. He said that he and his wife and their two children were hiking to Chaparrosa Peak and got lost on the way back down. He said they were also out of food and water. About an hour after his initial call he heard the Sheriff’s helicopter, which transported the family back to their vehicle in the preserve parking lot.
