Morongo Basin’s two Family Health Clinics have received Federally Qualified Health Center status from the Health Resources and Services Administration. This new designation brings with it federal dollars for expanded healthcare access to the uninsured and underserved. Discounted fees based on the ability to pay are provided. The District will receive $800,000 for 15 months, at which time the application can be renewed. Open since 2004, the family health clinics, located in Yucca Valley and Twentynine Palms, provide access to medical specialists for Medi-Cal and uninsured patients. Current services include family and internal medicine, pediatrics, behavioral health, ophthalmology, cardiology and general surgery. With the new designation, additional healthcare providers can be recruited and new services explored.
