Apparently there’s some funny money, in really small bills, floating around the Morongo Basin. The Morongo Basin Transit Authority reported Monday that sometime between 6:30 a.m. and 2:15 p.m. an unknown passenger placed two counterfeit dollar bills in the fair box of bus #303. The driver, who couldn’t identify the culprit or where the fake money had been deposited, discovered the crime at the end of the day after opening the box to transfer its contents to a safe at the MBTA office in Joshua Tree. Transit authority officials say the fare box is not equipped with a reader to verify legal tender. Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s department at 760-366-4175.
