The Desert Institute is offering a slow-paced, cross-country hike over the Pinto Basin sand dunes in the Joshua Tree National Park. You’ll walk over undulating sandy terrain of the dunes. The dunes are an excellent place for viewing the desert wildflower and aromatic Desert Lily. You may encounter the desert tortoise as well as signs of the nocturnal desert kit fox. The hike also includes a discussion of the formation of the dunes.

The hike will held on Saturday, February 22, from 8:00 am to noon. Meet at the Joshua Tree National Park’s Oasis Visitor’s Center in Twentynine Palms.

The fee is $35 for Joshua Tree National Park Association members and $45 for non-members.

To sign up to explore the Pinto Basin Sand Dunes go to www.joshuatree.org or call 760-367-5539.
