Don’t miss a unique opportunity to explore the San Andreas fault zone and the palm oases with Geologist Ted Reeves and the Desert Institute. Hilary Sloane will tell you how to sign up.…

California is a state defined by plate tectonics, motion, continental drift, and subduction zones. Reeves will illuminate fault-related features while telling the geologic story of the Indio Hills, the Mecca Hills, and Salton Trough in this all-day field class on Saturday, November 20, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Participants will meet at the Coachella Valley Preserve and walk a short distance to see fault features before traveling to Box Canyon and Painted Canyon to observe faults and folds where the Pacific plate is forcing up the Mecca Hills. The fee is $85 for JTNP members and $95 for non-members. To sign up, go to www.joshuatree.org or call 760 819-4714.
