EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING FOR TUESDAY THROUGH THURSDAY

The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning for the Morongo Basin from 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 24 until 9 p.m. Thursday, July 26. High temperatures are expected to reach up to about 109 in Yucca Valley and 117 degrees in Twentynine Palms. Cooling centers will be open at various locations including community centers, your local town hall or city hall, senior centers, libraries, restaurants, movie theaters and stores. Prolonged exposure to high temperatures can result in heat-related illnesses including cramps, heat exhaustion or heat stroke. To prevent heat-related illness, drink at least one quart of water per hour and avoid drinks that contain sugar, caffeine or alcohol. Take rest breaks in a cool, shady area. Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing. Try to do your work or exercise in the early morning or evening when it’s cooler.
