The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning from 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 24 until 9 p.m. Thursday, July 26. High temperatures are expected to reach 106 to 114 degrees. Prolonged exposure to high temperatures can result in heat-related illnesses including cramps, heat exhaustion or heat stroke. To prevent heat-related illness, drink at least one quart of water per hour and avoid drinks that contain sugar, caffeine or alcohol. Take rest breaks in a cool, shady area. Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing. Try to do your work or exercise in the early morning or evening when it’s cooler. Cooling centers will be open at various locations including community centers, your local town hall or city hall, senior centers, libraries, restaurants, movie theaters and stores.
