The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning for the Morongo Basin lasting until Saturday (July 22). Temperatures are expected to be in the triple digits over the next few days, and local government buildings, libraries, and community facilities are offering a number of cooling centers, essentially public places that are air conditioned.

Libraries county-wide, including the Yucca Valley, Joshua Tree and Twentynine Palms branches, are all open as cooling centers during normal business hours, Monday through Wednesday and Saturdays.

In Yucca Valley, town offices and The Yucca Valley Community Center are open Monday through Thursday. The Hi-Desert Nature Museum is open Wednesday through Saturday.

In Twentynine Palms, the Senior Center, which operates as a cooling center most weekdays, will remain open on Saturday and Sunday this week.
