The Campaign for the California Desert is co-hosting a free walk through Big Morongo Canyon Preserve Thursday (November 5) morning. Led by a representative of the Wilderness Society, the moderate, one-way 5½ -mile will take about four hours and descend 1,000 feet as hikers walk on established trails, a desert wash, and an old road to the edge of the Coachella Valley. Cars will be parked at the terminus of the hike, and hikers will be shuttled to the trailhead. Bring water (2 or 3 liters recommended), lunch and snacks. The hike starts at 9:45 a.m. at the Big Morongo Canyon Preserve trailhead. For more information and to reserve a spot, call Matt at 760-690-6649.
