Last night in Joshua Tree local residents filed into The Sportsman’s Club to capacity, more watched on a monitor outside, and thousands watched a live Facebook feed as members of the County Sheriff’s Department, the District Attorney’s Office, and Supervisor Dawn Rowe and her staff held an Emergency Community Meeting about plans to relocate a violent sexual predator from Ventura County to Joshua Tree. Reporter Mike Lipsitz is here to bring us up to date…
County Sheriff John McMahon told attendees his department is taking every action possible to stop the planned relocation of Ross Wollschlager to a rental property in North Joshua Tree. McMahon explained that law enforcement’s valuable limited resources would have to be diverted to protect the public and Wollschlager. Morongo Basin Sheriff Capt. Trevis Newport said deputies have been canvasing the area and documenting the number of those at risk with the idea of presenting their findings to the Ventura County Court where a final determination will be made November 7. Deputy District Attorney Maureen O’Connell urged the public to sign the petition and send letters opposing the relocation of Wollschlager here. The violent repeat offender has no connection to the Inland Empire; he would be required to attend ongoing treatment available only in Riverside or Orange counties.
