ELECTRICAL WORKER GETS 33,000 VOLTS IN DESERT HEIGHTS AREA

A man working on power lines last week received an electrical shock in the Desert Heights area of Twentynine Palms. About 10:15 a.m. Thursday, March 7, an unidentified 20-year-old man working on power lines near Golden Arrow Trail and Amboy Road, grabbed an electrical line that was supposed to have been discharged, but still had a charge. The man received a shock of up to 33,000 volts, which in theory, should have killed him. He was taken by Mercy Air to Desert Hospital in Palm Springs with injuries to his hand and abdomen. Representatives from Southern California Edison refused to say whether the man was an employee or worked for a private contractor, or to give an update on the man’s condition, saying only the incident is under investigation.
