**(updated to show filing has been extended for District 2)
The deadline to file paperwork for a candidacy in a local elected body has passed, but two organizations have extended the deadline in the hope for more candidates.
Official candidate listings have yet to be issued by the San Bernardino County Registrar of Voters, who oversees all local elections in the county including Twentynine Palms and Yucca Valley.
Twentynine Palms
The City of Twentynine Palms has extended the deadline to file for candidacy for City Council. Council Member Joel Klink, representing Twentynine Palms District 2, announced earlier this year that he will not be seeking re-election and so filing is extended to allow later filing to run for the vacant seat.
Officials with the City have extended the nomination period to August 15, and declined to provide an official list of candidates in other City Council races until then.

While challengers have filed, none have been officially certified as candidates by the County Registrar of voters. The City will submit those who have turned in papers to the registrar on August 15th. When those candidates are certified Z107.7 will publish them.

Two four-year seats are are being sought by three candidates: Christina Gorke, Lance Fisher, and challenger Eva Rowles. Gorke and Fisher already serve on the board. The three remaining seats are two-year terms, and so far are being sought by the remaining three board members: Steven Hayden, Lynn Watts, and Johnny Tolbert.
Yucca Valley officials told Z107.7 that Town Council Members Robert Lombardo and Jeff Drozd will be running for re-election without any opposition.
Joshua Basin Water District
Among the rest of the Morongo Basin’s elected governing bodies, only the Joshua Basin Water District sees challengers.
In Division 3, incumbent Jane Jarlberg will face a challenge from Ryan Cherlin. In Division 5 incumbent Stacy Doolittle will face challenger Debra Truncale.
