EDISON EXPLAINS NEW TIME-OF-USE RATE PROGRAM

The way you pay for electric power is about to change. A Southern California Edison representative spoke about time-of-use plans at a meeting in Twentynine Palms Monday, sponsored by Reach Out Morongo Basin. Reporter Andrew Dieleman was there, and explains what time-of-use-plans are…
Southern California Edison spokeswoman Jennifer Cusack explained that electricity rates in time-of-use plans change based on what time of day the electricity is used. Consumers pay more for energy during “peak period” hours from 4-9 p.m. and less during “off-peak period” hours from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Edison has selected about 10 percent of its customers—or about 600,000—to take part in the program. According to Cusack, selected participants can opt-out of the program at any time. If you are selected to be in the time-of-use plan, you will receive either email or direct mail notices beginning in March.
Cusack also stated that customers with solar panels have the option of opting in or out of the time-of-use plan as well, but will continue to earn applicable credits for the energy that their solar systems produce on the net-energy metering plan.
