According to the USGS, a 6.4 preliminary magnitude earthquake struck at 10:33 a.m. near Ridgecrest. There are no reports of significant damage or injury locally. A prolonged swaying motion was felt throughout the Morongo Basin. It was preceded by a 4.7 at 10:02. Caltech seismologists said “There is no threat to the San Andres Fault.” Some earthquake-related fires and more significant damage is reported near the epicenter. Caltech said some aftershocks are expected.
