EARLY RELEASE PAROLEE ARRESTED AFTER FOOT CHASE

A traffic stop, foot pursuit, and drugs were all behind the arrest of a Twentynine Palms man early Sunday morning. According to a Sheriff’s department press release, deputies attempted to stop Jermell Hayes, 35, on a minor traffic infraction near Highway 62 and Manzanita shortly before midnight Saturday. Hayes bailed from the car; after a foot chase, he was captured and arrested by deputies for investigation of driving under the influence and resisting arrest. Hayes was brought to the Morongo Basin Jail, where it was discovered he had hidden bags of methamphetamine on his person, as well as a large amount of cash and a digital scale. Jermell Hayes, who was on supervised probation after being released from state prison early under the Realignment Act, AB 109, was then booked into the jail for possession of a controlled substance for sales, and for entering a jail facility with a controlled substance. His bail is set for $50,000
