DRUGS A FACTOR IN YUCCA GRADE CRASH WEDNESDAY MORNING

We have more information about a two-vehicle crash on Highway 62 at the bottom of the Yucca Grade from early Wednesday morning. The California Highway Patrol says that drugs were a factor in the crash that sent one man to the hospital. About 12:20 a.m., 54-year-old Oscar Overstreet II from Twentynine Palms was driving a 1992 Toyota Corolla eastbound on the highway when for unknown reasons he lost control east of Samel Road. The Toyota struck the guardrail separating the east- and westbound lanes and became disabled in the westbound lane. Overstreet, who suffered moderate injuries, was able to get out of his car after the crash. Shortly afterward, I. Myers, 40, of Desert Hot Springs was driving a 2015 Dodge Ram westbound on the highway. He attempted to avoid hitting the Toyota, but clipped it. Myers and his unidentified female passenger were uninjured. CHP Officer Jeff McNutt said that drugs appeared to be a factor in Overstreet’s crash. Overstreet was transported by Morongo Basin Ambulance to Desert Regional Medical Center.
