Morongo Basin residents may soon hear the booming of shotguns, as the 2018 dove hunting season opens Saturday, September 1. California's dove season is split into two periods: the first will be open from September 1-15, and again from November 10 through December 24. Dove hunting season includes white-winged, mourning, spotted, and ringed turtle doves.
Mourning dove and white-winged dove have a daily bag limit of 15, of which 10 may be white-winged dove. There are no limits on spotted doves or ringed turtle doves. Hunting Eurasian collared doves is legal year round and there is no limit. Hunters must be in possession of a valid hunting license, an upland game bird stamp and a Harvest Information Program Stamp. Hunters are reminded to know the laws and rules of when and where you can hunt. The Department of Fish and Game says hunting safety is paramount. It is illegal to place, carry or possess a loaded rifle or shotgun in a vehicle on any public road fire any firearm within 150 yards of any occupied dwelling, or shoot from or on a public road or highway.
