This reminder, you may hear the sound of gunfire in some areas as dove hunting season opens tomorrow. Managing Editor Tami Roleff has details…
The opening day of dove hunting is September 1. As a result, Sheriff’s dispatch is usually flooded with numerous “shots heard” and “man-with-a-gun” calls. Dove hunting season runs from September 1 through September 15. It reopens November 12 to December 26. Non-lead ammunition is now required when hunting on in areas managed by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, although lead shot is still legal on federal and private lands. Legal hunting hours for dove season are from one-half hour before sunrise to sunset. For more information about dove hunting, see the Fish and Wildlife website, wildlife.ca.gov.
