DON’T FALL VICTIM TO PUBLISHERS CLEARING HOUSE SCAM

Another Yucca Valley resident was recently scammed out of tens of thousands of dollars by a caller who pretended to be a representative of Publisher’s Clearing House. Over the past year, the victim gave the scammers more than $35,000, which she was told was needed to process her winnings. She told the deputy that even after she finally figured out it was a scam, they continued to call her. In fact, the deputy noted in the report that the victim received 40 calls while the deputy was taking her report, and the calls didn’t stop until the deputy said law enforcement was now involved. Reporter Cassidy Taylor has tips on how to recognize and avoid this scam…

Publishers Clearing House sweepstakes are real, but it can be difficult to determine if you’ve actually won or of scammers are attempting to make you their next victim. Remember, winners are notified by certified or express letter or in person. Publishers Clearing House will never email or call winners and they will never ask for cash or gift cards for you to receive your winnings. When entering, you will not be asked for personal information like your address, bank account numbers, or driver’s license numbers. If you’re still not sure, contact Publishers Clearing House directly to verify your prize.
