A Yucca Valley man was recently conned out of more than $10,000 by scammers posing as representatives from Publishers Clearing House who told him he had won $2 Million. The victim told Sheriff’s Deputies that he had sent a total of $10,500 in cash and gift cards over the past few months to the scammers, who told him that the money was needed to process and ship his winnings. Reporter Cassidy Taylor has tips on how to recognize and avoid this scam…
Publishers Clearing House sweepstakes are real, but it can be difficult to determine if you’ve actually won or if scammers are attempting to make you their next victim. Remember, winners are notified by certified or express letter or in person. Publishers Clearing House will never email or call winners and they will never ask for cash or gift cards for you to receive your winnings. When entering, you will not be asked for personal information like your address, bank account numbers, or drivers license numbers. If you’re still not sure, contact Publishers Clearing House directly to verify your prize.
