A Morongo Basin resident recently reported being a victim of fraud when they unknowingly applied for a personal loan through a fraudulent online loan provider. Here’s reporter Andrew Dieleman with tips on how you can avoid becoming a victim of loan fraud…
Scammers go to great lengths to make online loans seem legitimate, don’t fall victim to the scams. When seeking a personal loan; beware of loan providers who do not require a credit check, do not have a physical address on file, or request upfront fees or collateral for the loan. Review the company’s online reputation and verify the company’s business license number before attempting any contact. Remember, no credit agency will ever require payments in the form of gift cards. If you believe you have been a victim of a loan scam, contact the Sheriff’s department at 760-366-4175.
