Domestic violence is often referred to as a silent crime, because its victims are hesitant to speak up about the abuse they suffer. An estimated 25 percent of women have been victims of domestic violence, as well as about 15 percent of men, while millions of children witness violence in their homes. Many friends, neighbors, and co-workers may not even realize that that the person next to them in church, at the grocery store, or living next door may be a victim of abuse. Edica Gonzalez says representatives from two Morongo Basin organizations will present a free program tomorrow on domestic violence…
Representatives from Unity Home and the Morongo Basin Sexual Assault Services will present an educational program Sunday, October 16, about domestic violence. A DVD presentation will showcase some women who were domestic violence survivors. The program starts at 2 p.m. at United Methodist Church on Mesquite Springs Road, next to the Twentynine Palms High School.
