DOG REUNITES WITH OWNER AFTER 6 MONTHS

Amanda Hernandez had almost given up hope of finding her lost dog, Misty, who had been missing for nearly six months. Hernandez and her three dogs had moved from Morongo Valley to the Western Hills area of Yucca Valley last year, but shortly after the move, Misty dug out from under her new home’s fence and disappeared. Managing editor Tami Roleff fills in the details of how Misty was found and reunited with her owner…
Amanda Hernandez was devastated December 19 to discover that Misty, an Australian shepherd mix, had dug a hole under the fence and ran off. Hernandez placed ads on Z107.7’s Cruisin’ Critters, along with other media and online sources, visited local animal shelters, and did everything she could think of to find her seven-year-old dog. Several months ago, the Yucca Valley Animal Shelter began receiving calls of a dog locked into the construction site at Wal-Mart. The black-and-white dog was very skittish and avoided human contact. Then two weeks ago, the animal shelter received calls about a dog inside the fencing at the site of the new Yucca Valley Senior Center at Dumosa and the Highway. Animal Control Officer Kim Casey put out a humane trap with food inside on June 5, and Misty was captured the next day. Misty was wearing a collar and identification tags, and Casey was able to reunite Misty and Hernandez. Other than being a little thin and of course a little dirty, Misty brought tears of happiness to Hernandez, and Misty responded with squeals of joy and a few juicy licks.
