The San Bernardino County District Attorney’s office announced Monday that it will not be pressing charges against the Sheriff’s deputy who was involved in a fatal traffic crash in Twentynine Palms last year, in which a Perris man was killed. According to spokesman Christopher Lee, the DA’s office declined to prosecute Deputy Erdem Gorgolu “due to a lack of evidence to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt.” He added that it was “not clear which driver caused the accident.” About 7:30 p.m. April 30, 2013, Deputy Gorgolu was driving eastbound on the highway in front of the Stater Brothers shopping center in Twentynine Palms when his patrol car crashed into a Toyota Camry at Encelia Avenue, driven by Luc Van Bui, 64. Bui was killed in the collision and Gorgolu was seriously injured and taken to Desert Hospital in Palm Springs. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department has refused to release the crash report to Z107.7 News.
