A distracted driver caused a power outage in parts of the Morongo Basin Saturday. According to the Sheriff’s Department, about 1:40 p.m., the unidentified driver was traveling north on La Contenta Avenue when he turned his head to look at his son in the back seat. He told the deputy that his steering wheel locked up and his Chevy pick-up truck traveled across the southbound lanes and hit a a power pole, sheering it off. The crash caused a power outage in parts of Joshua Tree and Yucca Valley. The driver sustained only minor injuries. Deputies determined he was driving without a license or current registration for his vehicle; he was cited and released.
