Speaking of “Day of the Dead” or Dia de Los Muertos, the Twentynine Palms Cemetery is also looking to accept altars for the Mexican celebration of the dead. The Art students at Copper Mountain College and the 29 Palms Public Cemetery have invited the High Desert Community to make altars honoring loved ones who have passed away. Traditionally, altars are created in homes and decorated with food, drinks, candles, incense, flowers, sugar skulls, and photos. However, with assistance from staff, Copper Mountain Art Department students and the 29 Palms Public Cemetery have designated Dia de Los Muertos to the high desert community as a time to remember and honor loved ones. The altars will be created on October 30, from 2 to 5 p.m., and set up at 29 Palms Public Cemetery, 5350 Encelia Ave, in Twentynine Palms.
The event is open to the public on October 30, from 6 to 9 p.m. And October 31, Noon to 3 p.m. Breakdown of Altars is on October 31, from 3 to 4 p.m.
Día de Los Muertos is the Mexican celebration of the dead, commemorating loved ones with homemade altars decorated with food, drinks, candles, incense, flowers, sugar skulls, and photos. The Altars will be constructed in the Cemetery community room, and tables and white linens provided by the Cemetery. Please bring boxes for height, colorful cloth, battery-operated candles, photos, food, drink, flowers, incense, sugar skulls, mementos of the person’s life books, music, and favorite items.
