Man dies from single-vehicle collision in Yucca Valley last night 12/21

Updated 9:14 A.M:

A man was killed on Highway 62 last night (December 21) after he was struck by a car in downtown Yucca Valley.

Gary Ray, a 69-year old man from Yucca Valley, was hit by a white Fiat traveling east on Twentynine Palms Highway near Fox Trail, according to a report from the Sheriff’s office.

Sheriff’s Deputies report that the man was in the roadway when he was struck. Witnesses reported to the Sheriff’s office that CPR was administered to the victim at the scene. Ray was transferred to High Desert Medical where he was pronounced dead.

The Morongo Basin Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) responded and the investigation is ongoing. Alcohol or drug intoxication does not appear to be a factor in the collision. Previous reports indicated that this was a hit-and-run, but the Sheriff’s office has confirmed that it was not, and the driver of the Fiat remained at the scene.
