DESERT TORTOISE CELEBRATION SATURDAY ON TORTOISE ROCK CASINO GROUNDS

The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens and the Twenty-Nine Palms Band of Mission Indians have partnered to create awareness of the vulnerable and threatened desert tortoise. They will host a free, family-friendly celebration of the desert tortoise on Saturday, September 30 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. outdoors at the Tortoise Rock Casino in Twentynine Palms. Open to all ages, the event will include interactive learning experiences, educational chats, crafts, games, face painting, a photo booth, and music. Meet and take a photo with The Living Desert’s Mojave Maxine, a live desert tortoise. There will be giveaways and a free, boxed barbeque lunch from Dickey’s Barbeque Pit, while supplies last.
