Desert Region Fire Safe Council holding first fire safety education meeting tonight (11/12) in Morongo Valley
Desert Region Fire Safe’s new office at Morongo Valley’s Fire Station #2 will be holding its first fire safety education meeting tonight (Wednesday, November 12) at 6:30 p.m.
Join Desert Region Fire Safe Council’s Justin Merino to learn how the first five feet around your home (also known as Zone Zero) can make all the difference in fire safety. Merino will provide real examples of ember-resistant landscaping and home hardening in action at Morongo Valley Fire Station #2, and he’ll offer expert guidance to help protect your property.
Prohibited in your home’s Zone Zero are in-ground plants, grass, mulch, wood fences attached to homes, sheds, garbage bins, BBQs and trellises. Allowed in your Zone Zero is hardscape like gravel or pavers, non-combustible fencing, and limited potted plants kept away from vents.
Guest speaker Grace Hamilton will give a power point presentation called “Lessons of Alta Dena,” chronicling her 37-years living in Alta Dena until January’s fires rendered her home a total loss.
It all starts at 6:30 p.m. at Morongo Valley’s Fire Station #2, located at 9492 Sundown Trail, free and open to the public.
