As educational institutions nationwide begin to reopen, safety rules are being put in place to protect students and teachers from viral infection. Many, such as the Desert Institute, are following guidance from the Center for Disease Control to ensure safe learning environments. Reporter Mike Lipsitz is here to tell us what to expect…
The Desert Institute, which is the educational arm of the Joshua Tree National Park, began limited resumption of some classes this weekend. Enrollees can expect smaller field class sizes to allow for social distancing, and in some cases, classroom lectures are being replaced with pre-recorded lectures to be accessed online from home. For in-person classroom sessions, hand sanitizer stations will be available in addition to facility disinfection. Face masks are required for all participants for both classroom and field programs. Participants are no longer encouraged to carpool. And cancellation fees have been eliminated; anyone feeling unwell should cancel and stay home for the protection of others. Anyone who finds these policies unacceptable should not register. Follow the link below to register or review the Desert Institute 2020 class offerings.
