On Saturday, February 29, the Desert Institute will offer “History and Legends of the Joshua Tree Music Scene,” a one-day class tailor-made for music fans who can’t get enough local music lore.
Led by Bruce Fessier, who has chronicled the Joshua Tree music scene since 1981, the class will explore the origins of our thriving music scene and how psychedelic experiences here contributed to pop culture and eventually led to our now-famous music festivals, recording studios and popular live music venues. The class will include stories, playlists, and a caravan to key sites in the development of the Joshua Tree music scene.
The cost is $150 for Joshua Tree National Park Association members and $160 for non-members. Meeting at the Black Rock Nature Center in Yucca Valley, the seven-hour class begins at 10 am. For more info, and to register, visit joshuatree.org.
