DESERT HOT SPRINGS MAN ACCUSED IN ATTEMPTED MURDER OF YUCCA VALLEY BURGLARY VICTIM

A Desert Hot Springs man is in custody, accused of attempted murder, after he allegedly shot a Yucca Valley man who confronted him about burglarizing his home. According to San Bernardino and Desert Hot Springs law enforcement authorities, residents in the 58700 block of La Crescenta Drive in Yucca Valley said their home was burglarized Sunday evening between 6 and 9 p.m. Among the items stolen were several firearms, drones, and the security DVD system. The residents went to the 66700 block of Eighth Street in Desert Hot Springs to confront Jeffrey Hammer Jr., 33, the man they suspected of breaking into their home. Hammer allegedly shot the Yucca Valley man in the upper body. The victim was taken to Desert Hospital in Palm Springs. On Monday at 10:12 a.m., Desert Hot Springs police received a tip that Hammer was hiding in the 66300 block of Seventh Street, where they took him into custody without incident. Jeffrey Hammer was arrested for investigation of attempted murder, booked into the Banning Jail with his bail set at $1 million.
