UPDATE 1-4 4 p.m.: The boy was found Monday afternoon.
The Sheriff’s Department is searching for a 17-year-old boy who has been missing since 7 p.m. Sunday night. Owen Coogan left a note that he was going into the mountains of Joshua Tree National Park. He was last seen in the 61700 block of Elwood Place in Joshua Tree. Coogan has auditory and visual learning disabilities. The Sheriff’s helicopter has been flying around making public announcements for Coogan. Deputies have called for tracking dogs to assist. Owen Coogan is Asian, 5 feet 7 inches tall, medium length black hair and brown eyes. He may be wearing light brown or tan sweats with a blue or gray long sleeve shirt.
