DEPUTIES SEARCHING FOR DRIVER IN HIGH-SPEED PURSUIT THURSDAY

Deputies are continuing a search for the driver who led them on a high-speed pursuit from one end of the Morongo Basin to the other Thursday morning. About 11:10 a.m., deputies attempted a traffic stop on a blue SUV near Highway 62 and Palm Avenue in Yucca Valley. The driver failed to pull over and fled at speeds of up to 100 miles per hour east on the highway, all the way into Twentynine Palms. Deputies stopped the pursuit in downtown Twentynine Palms due to safety concerns. A short time later, the vehicle was seen by another deputy on the east side of Twentynine Palms and the pursuit continued south on Utah Trail into Joshua Tree National Park. Deputies again discontinued the pursuit inside the park for safety reasons and the suspect was not apprehended. Deputies are investigating the incident and following up on leads. Anyone with information should call the Sheriff’s Department at 760-366-4175.
