On Thursday March 5th at 5:41 p.m. deputies responded to calls of a man walking in the neighborhood armed with a gun. Deputies arrived in the area and the armed man, later identified as Josh Simon, 36, went inside the residence and refused to exit. At nearly the same time, deputies received a secondary call reporting a female down in the road next to a vehicle in the area of Power Line Rd. west of Morongo Rd. Deputies and medical personnel responded to the female, Beatriz Guzman, 35, and found she was suffering gunshot wounds and was pronounced deceased. A short time later Simon surrendered to deputies without further incident. Detectives learned that the suspect and victim have been in a dating relationship and on Thursday evening, for reasons still under investigation, the suspect shot the victim. Detectives interviewed Josh Simon and following the interview he was arrested for Murder. He was booked at West Valley Detention Center.
We have limited information about a Murder in Twentynine Palms Thursday evening. About 5:40 p.m., deputies were called about a man with a gun near the intersection of Pole Line Road and Morongo Road in the Desert Heights neighborhood of Twentynine Palms. Witnesses said the man was pointing a gun at them as they drove by. When deputies arrived, they found a female body at the scene and took a suspect into custody. Neither the suspect nor the victim have been identified by investigators yet. Sheriff’s Homicide unit has taken over the investigation. Access to the Ocotillo Gate onto the Marine base was closed during the investigation. Z107.7 will release more information when it becomes available.
