DENISON SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED TO YVHS SENIOR

For the fourth consecutive year, a Yucca Valley High School senior has been awarded the Ruth Denison Environmental Conservation Scholarship. Reporter Mike Lipsitz has the name of this year’s recipient and a little bit about the award…

Graduating senior Anwyn “Annie” Hilderbrand has been named this year’s recipient of the Ruth Denison Environmental Conservation Scholarship by the Morongo Basin Conservation Association. The scholarship is given each year to a local student planning to attend university or college to prepare for future environmental or conservation work. Hilderbrand plans to begin her studies at Copper Mountain College with a major in Environmental studies. At Yucca Valley High School, she was on the Principals Honor Roll for four years and was a finalist for this year’s Greenleaf scholarship. Annie aims to educate youth about the importance of being stewards of the environment. The $500 scholarship is made possible by a bequest from Ruth Denison, the venerable Buddhist teacher and long-time supporter of the Morongo Basin Conservation Association.
