On June 5, Yucca Valley registered voters will be asked to vote on Measure L, a citizens’ initiative that would allow indoor commercial cultivation and processing of marijuana in industrial zones of Yucca Valley and in the Old Town commercial zone. Yesterday, the Town of Yucca Valley held the first of five informational meetings on the issue. Reporter Mike Lipsitz was there…
About three dozen people showed up for yesterday’s informational meeting on Measure L at the Yucca Valley Community Center. The meeting opened with a brief slide presentation and overview of the ballot initiative followed by questions from those in attendance. And despite town manager Curtis Yakimow’s claim that the Town of Yucca Valley is officially neutral on the issue, both the presentation and responses questions from the audience left a distinct impression that the town administration opposes Measure L. The issue has Yucca Valley residents deeply divided with some seeing passage a means to bring growth and economic opportunities to the area, and others seeing it as an invitation for crime, environmental damage, and moral decay. Probably all that can be said for certain is that some left yesterday’s meeting seeing green while others left seeing red.
