DECEASED RIMROCK RESIDENT NAMED “THE WORLD’S FASTEST WOMAN”

A Rimrock resident who died last year while attempting to break a land speed record has been posthumously named the World’s Fastest Woman, according to Guinness World Records. Jessi Combs, 39, was in her reconfigured F-104 jet-powered race car, called the North American Eagle, on the Alvord dry lake in Oregon when her car crashed in August 2019, killing her. Her speed had been clocked at 522 miles per hour before the crash. Combs is the first person to break the land-speed record in 40 years. Combs was named the “Fastest Woman on 4 Wheels” in 2013 when she broke the women’s land speed record for going nearly 393 miles per hour. She was named Queen of the Hammers when she had a first-place finish at the 2016 King of the Hammers off-road race in Johnson Valley. She also competed in the Baja 1000. Combs was a guest host on “Mythbusters,” and appeared on “Overhauling,” and “All Girls Garage.”
