Joshua Tree National Park has been designated an International Dark Sky Park by the International Dark Sky Association. A celebration of the designation is set for Saturday, August 12, at Copper Mountain College.
Representatives from the park and the community will be on hand to talk about the star gazing and the beauty of Joshua Tree National Park at night. The designation ceremony starts at 5 p.m. in the Bell Center Community Room at Copper Mountain College in Joshua Tree. Then afterwards, head to Sky’s the Limit Observatory, just north of the park entrance in Twentynine Palms, to watch the Perseid meteor shower, starting at 8:15 p.m. to about midnight.
