CSA70W-1 RESIDENTS FIGHT WATER RATE HIKE

Landers residents living east of Yucca Mesa Road received notice of a proposed 20% water rate hike from the County’s Special Districts Department which controls the 640 water meters in that part of Landers. Residents there already pay rates, much higher than the rest of Landers which is served by Bighorn-Desert View Water Agency. The increase is subject to the terms of California’s Prop 218, which means that a majority of those affected can kill the proposed increase by filing written protests. CSA70W-1 Water rates have increased annually for ten years. Spurred on by the 20% figure, about a dozen locals have organized to oppose the increase, by gathering more protesters. Unless the County Board of Supervisors grants an extension, they have until June 2nd to gather 320 valid protests and kill the rate hike.
