If this past weekend was any indication, the annual winter deluge of visitors to Joshua Tree National Park is right on time despite some COVID-related closures. Reporter Heather Clisby has details…
With cars lined up to enter and depart Joshua Tree National Park (JTNP) this past weekend, the winter tourist season will likely persist despite some park closures. Following guidance from the CDC, state and county authorities, JTNP announced that the park would close all campgrounds this week and suspend all programs until further notice. Those with reservations would be automatically refunded.
And while JTNP’s bookstores and visitor information desks remain open, all museum and exhibit portions of park visitor centers will be closed for the time being.
Locals should consider planning around park crowds by visiting Monday through Thursday and arriving before 10 a.m. to secure a parking spot. Despite cooler temperatures, remember to bring more water than you think you need and leave dogs at home as they are not allowed on trails.
