A combat Marine who served two tours in Iraq is riding horseback from Camp LeJeune, North Carolina, to Camp Pendleton, California, to raise awareness of suicide among military veterans and to raise money for the Semper Fi Fund. Managing editor Tami Roleff puts on her cowgirl boots to tell us about the Long Trail Home ride…
After two combat infantry tours in Iraq, Matt Littrell said he started considering suicide. But he decided to spread awareness about suicide among veterans by riding horseback across country and to raise money for the Semper Fi Fund, which helps take care of military members who are wounded both physically and mentally. Littrell started his journey in May with three horses; two that were ridden, and one as a pack horse. Along the way he has picked up more horses and even a truck and trailer. Littrell and his companions will be in Twentynine Palms Saturday night (November 15) for the Desert Sky dinner and dancing at Smith’s Ranch. Sunday morning, Littrell will ride to the Twentynine Palms Elks Lodge for lunch. For more information about Littrell and his ride, visit his Facebook page at Long Trail Home.
