Creative Cafe holds first session this Wednesday (2/4) at Joshua Tree Retreat Center

The Creative Cafe is a weekly drop-in art session held at the Joshua Tree Retreat Center and hosted by local artists Jillian Sandell.

Sandell sets up a different creative activity each week, and this week she will be providing materials for still life works. The Creative Cafe is open to all ages and skill levels and donations are accepted on a sliding scale. 

For their first session of 2026, Sandell will be leading a session on still life. The class will include a variety of objects for students to draw along with different drawing materials. Sandell will offer a few simple tips and possible ways to approach drawing still life, but as always participants are free to use the materials and prompts as little or as much as they want.

Wednesday’s session runs from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. at the Food For Thought Cafe in the Joshua Tree Retreat Center. Reservations are not required but donations between $5 and $20 are suggested.
