CRASHES CLOSE MORONGO GRADE THURSDAY MORNING

If you tried to go down to the Low Desert yesterday morning, you were stuck—literally. Two crashes on the downward side of the Morongo Grade closed Highway 62 at Hess Boulevard in Morongo Valley for about two hours. The first crash happened 9:46 a.m. when a car went over the guardrail and landed on its roof about 30 feet down the embankment. Morongo Valley Fire Chief Gary Yearsley said that the driver of the car was not at the scene when they arrived. As fire fighters were searching the area to ensure the driver had not been thrown from the vehicle, a second three-car chain-reaction crash happened, at 10:26. A woman in the middle vehicle was transported by Morongo Basin Ambulance to Desert Hospital in Palm Springs.
